The liberal like model for the development of slavery would assume we were savages. Slavery was primary, it was an automatic thing where Engels reverses this and says there has to be a certain amount of surplus so that people can have free time. And I think in contrast, liberals would be like, no, there's something inherent about humanity, like these hierarchies are inherent, and, you know, we're sort of stuck with this form of existence, etc.
