The Evolution of Instagram's Scaling Challenges

Instagram was built on Django, which can be used to scale big sites. Mike Krieger says the company had some scaling problems in its early days. Instagram moved from a sharded or M-based database to tau and now uses Facebook's graph database for most of its data.
