The way they used to build cars, just like the hyperactive high-minded knowledge work was very convenient and very flexible and very natural. What Ford did with the continuous motion assembly line was a huge pain. It required them to spend more money. And until they got it right, it caused a lot of little bad things to happen. The goal in work is not to maximize what's going to be easiest. Our goal is certainly not to reduce friction to lowest possible levels.
