Why Are Our Boys Writing So Terribly?

In 18 75, a Harvard committee was tasked with solving the writing problem. They decided that it is absurd to suggest that any human being who can be taught to talk cannot likewise be taught to compose. Instead of saying, gosh, they're learners we should teach them, they said, they're lazy. They're stupid. They don't know how to do this. Somebody has failed them. It's definitely not us. And so they, they totally missed an opportunity, and we have never recovered.
