Mainstream media are unlikely to cover issues like standing rock or monocia until movements are well underway and or reaching dramatic peaks. Jenny Monet is an independent Laguna Pueblo journalist focused on indigenous rights who began her career in local US television. She was arrested at Standing Rock, which we discuss later in the chapter. In Canada, indigenous people are more likely to be included in statistical data reporting and to be covered by media. Most mainstream coverage has reflected a deficit model where indigenous people are represented as lesser than the mainstream public.
