Shakespeare's Sonnet 87
Bloom said that he was not old enough to undertake a work on Shakespeare but when the time came it would have to be wholly dedicated to the Bard. Bloom added his book Shakespeare the invention of the human to the long tradition of Shakespearean criticism and so let's read through this sonnet together. The poem is ostensibly about Shakespeare's parting from his patron the Earl of Southampton now is this an erotic poem many will read it that way? It could well be it could be an erotic poem and it could be essentially a bit of a breakup poem or it could be a poem from an artist to their patron as they part.
