For most of the time since 1961, Presidents have not taken in-person oral briefings from some intelligence community officers as part of their intelligence gathering process. The Presidents have had different mixes of the written briefing and the oral briefing, and there's no right way of doing it. It really depends on the learning style of the President. But only a few Presidents have had sustained regular in-Person oral briefings of the President's Daily Brief.
