What Happened to MySpace in 2004?
In early 2005, when Facebook had just launched the year before, MySpace allegedly attempted to buy out this competing social network. In hindsight, this would be a very bad decision. But at the time, they had no way of knowing that. It's not like you can really blame them. They just saw Facebook as a small-time competitor.
