Reading Biblical Narratives, Pt. 3

Faith Improvised

CHAPTER

The Parable of the God of Israel

In the Old Testament, prophets are rebels and they are rockers. These are not mega church pastors or religious figures that are part of an establishment. In Mark 11, Jesus shows up at the temple, looks around and leaves. The next morning as he's going back to Jerusalem, he sees this fig tree and he curses it. And now Jesus is going to do basically what the parable represents. So context determines everything in biblical narratives.
