The Fall of the Swedish Empire
Sweden was too small to truly compete with the great powers. The inevitable fall came under King Charles XII, whose foreign policy was so irrationally aggressive some historians have speculated that he was mentally ill. His constant wars pushed Sweden's resources and manpower to the breaking point. By 1789, the Swedish military was a shadow of its former self - but still nothing to sneeze at.
