The Evolution of Pharma
The purpose of a system is what it does. If a niche is there, it's going to get filled by selection. And whatever pharma started out as, there's an obvious niche that it has evolved to. The niche is how to create demand for products. Demand for pharma's products are very rarely generated by health. Demand is generated by ill health. I would expect in a world where pharma had gained undue influence over our scientific viewpoint that prevention would fall by the wayside.
