After Vatican II, there was this mindset that many people had that the church is changing. Once it's kind of like a dam breaking, once a dam breaks, you can't keep that water in, it's going to come out. So even though the Vatican doc Vatican II documents didn't mandate some of these things, people started doing them. It just really became very popular. And now it's very, very common,. as you probably know, that's when this started.
