Amina: This is a great, sort of bonous episode to add to that material. The paper has a lot of concepts that you've heard about on the show and prominently featured how minds change. We start with taj fells minimal group paradime - people will form groups over anything no matter how small or inconsequential. And i'm going to talk for a good bit about some psychology stuff so let's bring that in.

New research suggests people on opposite sides of wedge issues want to listen to each other. We are each eager to hear differing opinions and understand opposing views, and when we do it can change our minds (at least a little), but only when we aren't triggered by the psychological phenomenon of reactance - one of several ideas we explore in this episode.
