A Brief History of the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty

The Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty was signed on December 4th, 1954 and ratified the following March. It marked the beginning of an oversized American military presence on Taiwan. The USTDC were under the US Pacific Command and were composed of military personnel from all branches of the service. They were tasked with essentially defending Taiwan. In addition to Jean-Manin-Mazu there was also an island chain to the north of there right off the coast of Taichou, Jia Jiang Province called the Dachuns.
