If the individual pronounces his own name one way, that is definitely the friend's choice. What if it's a name that's specific or more specific to a region or a culture and there's maybe say an Americanized version of it? Then they're both correct. It's a case by case basis. I'm just saying if Henry comes up here and says his name is now Henri, I'm going to be excited.
