There is still quite a lot of virulent racism in some parts of France. There are also seasonal migrant workers especially in south of France. In autumn you'll often see Africans from West Africa working in vineyards or picking fruit in the Rhone Valley. It's a seasonal population which reflects much older trends because people used to move about France a lot more looking for work.
