Timothy Egan's latest book is A Fever in the Heartland, The Ku Klux Klan plot to take over America and the women who stopped them. In 1920s Indiana was most homogenous of all American states; Klansmen were merchants, bankers, preachers, politicians, judges. They saw it as a great way to scheme, fleece people, but they went along with it because they knew what they were doing,. And also there's a hero of this book, the woman who stopped the clan or at least struck a real blow to their movement.
