The military industrial complex could have profited from preparing for unconventional wars just as much as from conventional ones. We got it wrong, primarily because of viat nam. Severely scarred by the experience of viet nam, american alits decided in the 19 seventies that we would never fight a war like that. The fear of being conscripted and then ordered,. not merely to risk one's life, but potentially to perform morally repugnant acts fed a massive anti war movement.
