Zimrid has been around for five years, but was only doing black cars and taxis at the time. The company is trying to make car ownership optional by using people's personal vehicles as a form of transportation. Zimride started with criminal background checks, driving record checks, a million dollars of insurance that went above and beyond many of the standards that were required of taxis. They are now pivoting away from college focused campuses to a more general, uber like model.
