Masa Amini's Death Was a Resurgence of Morality Policing

Masa Amini's family say she died after being beaten by members of the morality police. Also known as guidance patrols, their white fans and male and female crews are a controversial feature of daily life in Iran. Their mandate is to find, essentially, harass usually Iranian women who are allegedly flouting the state's dress codes. Have you ever been stopped? You know, when I lived in Iran in my 20s, I've probably been stopped a dozen times. And I think part of the shock of the reaction to Masa Amini's death was this is a generation of 20-something who had become really accustomed to this not being enforced upon them. So the resurgence of morality policing
