The History of Roller Coasters

Lamarckus A. Taylor's patent describes what he calls an improvement, but it doesn't have all the details of a working device. There are multiple newspaper articles mentioning Taylor's patented inclined railway carrying actual passengers and there is even at least one photo. Richard Nudsen was also issued a different patent for improvement in inclined plane railways in 1878. This one featured a lift at each end of the track for raising the car back up to the top.
