Are Company Towns a Part of Capitalist Development?

Why don't we have as many company towns anymore? I think there seems to be some association or some relationship between company towns and like a certain phase of capitalist development. A lot of large tech companies in the benefits that they provide are offering something akin to a distributed company town experience. But with remote work, who knows that that could possibly change. We'll see.
