Blair's Approach to Politics
He pursued the third way, his approach to politics which meant he persuaded Bush to go to the UN. In doing so he became Tony Blair and indeed Bush wholly reliant on the intelligence because they were only going to get a UN resolution. It's too simplistic to say he lied. He was forming a case so he would have the space to back Bush. But that would have undermined his desire to be seen as this strong ally of Bush. You needed to probe deeper the nature of that flawed administration. If Blair had wanted to he could have examined the state of this dysfunctional administration and wondered whether it would be capable of dealing with the aftermath of a war in a country as divided as Iraq.
