The Concept of Citizen Designs

The formation of the Thai nation state entailed the production of a kind of series of aesthetic dictates around what a modern citizen would look like. So, for example, there was a history of laws called the cultural mandates that laid out a series of proclamations or that had explicit connections between things like dress and national security. The more I considered it, the more I saw the ways in which those legacies of the idea of designing citizenship as a state-centered project were continuing to play out through urban planning.
