Warlock started out as the old english wa loga, which meant a traitor or liar. While wedlock was making a pledge, warlock was breaking a pledge. The word supernatural used to mean divine, because who's above nature? God, of course, always lording it over everything. Witches do take the lead at being executed for witchcraft, although not exclusively, and er not in iceland.
