Is Reason a Tool for Attaining Better Decisions?

An intellectualist tradition sees reason indeed as a tool for reaching better decisions or reaching better beliefs and beliefs. But what that tradition emphasizes is that reason is supposed to achieve these ends pretty much on narrow, so each individual reasoner by thinking things through carefully. And so, we're not saying that reason doesn't help the overall goal of arriving at better decisions and standard beliefs,. What we're saying is that it usually does this in a social context when you're exchanging arguments and reasons with others rather than on your own.
