Are Natural Languages More Expressive Than Predicate Logic?

In your book you talk about how natural languages are structured, and so we can look at them in terms of their similarities to things like predicate logic but they're more expressive. You also seem to you argue that they're helpful for our reasoning as well. What is it that these languages are doing that's more expressive and how is this helpful not a distraction why shouldn't we just try and distill everything down intopredicate logic and think that way?
