Most countries that have stopped having the queen or king depending on the time period as head of state have been countries whose relationship with colonialism are not the same as Canada. David Frum: As much as I find the monarchy distasteful and don't support it, having a constitutional monarchy as a system is pretty effective. He says if we do end up doing something, let's just have it as simple as possible and as close to what we have now.
