Is There a Difference Between the Martyr and the Suicide Bomber?
For most of history, society's pre modern tribal societies have always believed that somehow there's death. Modernity tends to repress death. It can't do anything with it. If you're seited by the ideology of progress, then it's hard to fit death in at all. That is a sacrficial insight that you have to give something up in order to gain. And that's both true in terms of civilization, which is generally built upon a lot of wretchedness and misery - not just the origin, but which actually carries on.
