The martial culture of para military politics is not just the domain of a white supremisis right wing. It's also historically been taken up by many in the black freedom t from the american civil war and reconstruction to various efforts at self defense, and even organized political militias. And we've seen small arms violence, both used to repress rural labor struggles in the history of this country, but also used to defend them. What should we think about gun culture on the left? There are, no doubt, costs and consequences to adopting a martial stance on the field of politics, even even in self defence.
Patrick Blanchfield analyzes the long history of US gun violence and the American death drive.
