The Importance of Memory in EMDR Therapy
The goal in EMDR processing is not to erase any memories or get rid of, but it's to find a storage. What form do we want this stored in so that when it gets recalled back, because it will, that's how life functions? It can show up in a state dependent way that is not so maladaptive, dysregulating, dysfunctional for you. So it's not just moving towards we're not erasing memories and we're not trying to tell a client that a traumatic memory is just fine now.
