There are epigenetic effects but they're not nearly as large as you've been led to believe. People are sort of desperate for a counter narrative where if we just structured society the correct way the genetic effects would be washed out and we'd be reborn. The line of the state are very, very, very frightened of the possibility that you and I are molecular machines.
