During the nineteenth century was this huge time for natural history and taxidermy. It led to arsenic being used also in embalming, starting in the early 1900s. But it didn't last too long as an embalming agent because people were worried about the negative health impacts of working so closely with the substance. And how would you be able to tell whether that person had been murdered? Using arsenic? You could not. This was a problem because people were certainly still committing murder with the stuff.
