Athens, the Birthplace of Democracy

According to tradition, it was in the years five o eight and five o seven b c e that a set of radical reforms in the city state of athens ushered in the earliest phase of democracy. By the year four for seven, that democratia, the early form of democracy, had become well established. Every male citizen had a vote, and they spent all their time arguing in huge assemblies about how they were going to conduct their affairs. So democracy was spreading, but always by entirely democratic means.
