TURKMENESTAN - The Resource Curse
Tekmenestan is home to the fourh largest natural gas reserves in the world. Yet it's still a poor country, with an average salary of around 400 dollars per month. It has not managed to turn its wealth into any significant increase in standard of living for its people. The theory goes that having large amounts of natural resources actually ends up hurting them and harming their development in the long run.
