Investing in shares can give your money the chance to earn better returns. Over 10 years, the ASX 200 index had an average total return of 9.3% each year. In fact, you could own a share deck today that is worth $10 and you could own that same share in 20 years and it could still be worth $10. Almost half the total return came from yield. So how much you got paid for owning that shared, not how much it increased in value.
