The History of the Dishwasher

The first dishwashing device was a patent in 1850 by Joel Houghton. In 1883, Josephine's husband died and she needed some cash to start her own business. She made wire framed compartments that fit her dishes so they could be attached to a vice. This was the first dishwasher to use water pressure, not scrubbers. And when she was finding customers, she would have really liked to sell her where to women directly.
