The History of the Peloponnesian War
A quarrel between Megara and Corinth in 461 BC led to the Peloponnesian War. The war was fought fairly steadily for 27 years, but historians call it a series of battles often punctuated by considerable intervals of peace. Athens began to build a series of long walls on the Sissii Gulf, connecting Megara with Port of Nironikia which is located where Athens also gained control. It was bad enough that they settledThe Helots on northern coast of Attica when Sparta finally gave up trying to put down the Helot Revolution at Mount Etheumae. Thucydides calls this event that marked the beginning of hatred for Athens.
