I think part of what's going on here is the reporting of crime is up, not the crime itself. I think something else that's going on is that people have a tendency to be afraid. There was one question in this Gallup poll that asks, how often do you worry about being a victim of terrorism? Now 12% of Americans said frequently. So we've got a pretty big rift between perception and reality. What more can we say about it?
