The History of White Skin

In Japan, there's an old Japanese proverb that says white skin covers seven flaws. In the Edo period, this from 1603 to 1868, it was a moral duty for women to apply white powder to their face in order to achieve skin that looks like white polish stone. The whitening of faces predates the Qing period from 221 to 206 BC, which was a source of cultural pride. White goddesses and Buddha were often depicted as white in art literature and other visual forms.
