I started a submitting cartons to the new yorker. The writer's guild was on strike, and so we weren't working. And i got an interview there, submit a pile of my drawings. A robert mankoff, who was the cartoon editor at the time,. looked at my drawings and he said,  your stuff isn't good enough to be called naive.
