How to Use Logs to Improve Performance

Sophie: What tools would you use to get these fundamentals in an Elixir app or before we go into that, are we missing some some fundamental pieces? I think people tend to misuse exception reporting and sort of over report things that are not exceptional. So for example, if you find yourself logging duration information, that shouldn't be a log statement that should be a metric. It's sad to see like, it's kind of treated like a third class citizen, log all the things who cares about how the logs look. We had an issue with that a couple months ago where our code was running on JVM which is killing resources in the infrastructures.
