Sally Kohn: I think there are two main takeaways. The first one is that enlightenment ideas were primarily driven by printing and books in 18th and 19th century. And so I think that explains a lot. The second one is timing matters. So whether or not secular political movements emerge early, and also whether or not they emerge much earlier than religious ones really makes a difference.
