The calcaneus is kind of that adapter that keeps the Achilles safe when you're doing all these explosive things. It finally clicked with me now that if that calcaneus stays in its in its dorsiflex position where it's a stuck and then the knees going forward there's going to be way more lengthening. The muscle itself has got three different lengthening shortening relationships going in each moment of the cycle, which really underlines how important joints are for effortless movement.
