I think the reason young Frankenstein kind of works better as a moving movie than the rest is because at the end of the day he still is telling the Frankenstein story. And even done in a comedy way he's still committing to telling the story and you get involved in it. He's also a stunningly well matched to the original look of this film. But I can't imagine that movie working as well as it is without Gene WilderBecause it is Gene Wilder's commitment to his performance that actually makes you take the movie vaguely seriously as time would go on. That wouldn't be enough for me. Just presenting cliches and presenting a familiar thing and laughing at my recognition was not
