In some environments, there can be a tendency to worship the church. And usually when you do that, you think you're worshiping Christ. That's why Jesus had harsher words for the Pharisees who were correct theologically and very idealistic ethically than for the prostitutes and tax collectors. A lot of traditionalists have positions of organizational power; they are trying to shut down the Holy Spirit priority. Francis is changing that. He's shaking up the power structure. Church has gone through worse times than this. The mafia used to own the papacy back in the vorzia days. That required a bigger shake up than we've got today.
