The Hypothetical Chain of Morality and Human Frustration
The idea of grounding morality and human flourishing is interesting, but it's fraught with problems. We want some ultimate ground that's universal for all human beings because when we make these moral judgments, we are saying that all human beings are bound by them. I'm sympathetic to that project, but there are lots of formidable goals to it.
