I think the mechanicals also teach us another important thing about theatre, which is as well as literalising Wall and Moonshine. So you have these high status characters like Theseus Hippolyta, but it's actually bottom who has the most lines in the text. Do you think the rude mechanicals usually portray too crudely? They can be. They portray it as very thick and stupid. But at the same time I think we do get emotionally invested with their performance of Pyramids and Theisbe. By that time you're really kind of rooting for them and you're moved by them and you love them.
