The History of the Internet Industry
In the late 70s, early 80s, all of the different computer networks that would network together to make something like what we call the internet could talk to each other. But they didn't have a place to physically connect. The first internet exchange point was built in Washington, DC around what we now call Tyson's corner. That model works so well that it's then required by the feds through Al Gore's 91 high performance computing act.
