When anatomically modern humans began to make their way out of africa around 60 thousand years ago, they were heading outward into an exceptionally in hospitable landscape. They spread from spain to australia and everywhere in between, with the exception of the americas, by the end of the last glacial maximum. This was when we absorbed and displaced our archaic cousins and developed much of the behavior that marks us as well human.
